С американского форума 31.12.2013:
This is what Cecil sent me last night.
Jim, my skylane was substantially damaged today following a collision at an altitude of about 800 ft. MSL over Lake Des Allemands area. Will was flying the plane with his wife when he saw a large bird, maybe an eagle, or Osprey, Buzzard, or Goose strike the right wing leading edge. Strike did substantial damage to aircraft, and Will declared an Emergency, and attempted to land at home base, the grass strip at Ama, LS40. He Loss control of the aircraft at 500ft, when it attempted to do a wing-over, as he slowed down to make his approach to landing, and lost 400 ft in an attempt to recover level flight, which he did. He then notified New Orleans tower of his intent to make a high-speed landing on RWY 1, touching down at 120 kts, to make sure of positive control down to the ground. Neither he or his wife were injured. You might report this incident to local flyers who frequent areas where birds of Prey or large water foul are often found. More later. Incident was reported to FAA and FSDO. More later. See Times Picayune tomorrow.
Cecil
When I spoke to him this am he said that when Will lowered 10 degrees of flaps the plane tried to do a wing over. He raised flaps, applied power and full left aileron. He managed to recover but had lost altitude. In fact Cecil said that there were some trees in the area, swampy, and he was below the tree tops. I think he said it was pointed nose down before he recovered. Must have been very scary.
